Account backup
Move your Instagram content to a new phone without losing originals
Signing into Instagram on a new phone restores the account view, not every local draft or editing project. Move the device-only material before wiping or trading in the old phone.
Find what exists only on the old phone
Check the camera library, Files or Downloads, editing apps, voice recordings, subtitle apps, and any folder used for cover images. Draft behavior varies by app and version, so do not assume an unpublished Reel or Story draft will follow your login.
Export finished drafts as ordinary media files when the app allows it. For an editor project, use the editor's project-backup or cloud-sync feature and confirm it appears on another device before erasing anything.
Prepare account access separately
Confirm the account email and phone number, store backup codes for two-factor authentication, and make sure your password manager is available on the new device. Do not send passwords, session cookies, or authentication codes to a migration website.
If the account is important to a business, record who controls recovery channels before the device change. A successful photo transfer does not help if the only authentication method was tied to a retired number.
Verify before erasing the old phone
Open a sample of transferred photos and videos, launch the critical editor projects, and sign in to Instagram on the new phone. Check that two-factor authentication works and that recovery details are current.
Keep the old phone untouched for a short overlap period when possible. Once the new device and the independent backup both contain the needed files, the old device can be erased according to its manufacturer's instructions.
